Ride to Dholavira, Kadir Bet Island in the Greater Rann, Gujarat

The salt desert of the Rann of Kutch is a place where the heavens meet earth effortlessly. The emptiness is so vast and white that it seems as if one can levitate into the great beyond even without wishing for it. There is no horizon here, nothing exists except the illusion of the ground beneath our feet. At the centre of the great salt plains cum tidal lake is the island of Kadir Bet. At the western end of Kadir Bet is the Indus Valley Civilization site of Dholavira. Standing atop the mound of Dhloavira we were transported back in time. Perhaps the ancient Dholavirans too gazed at the fathomless expanse of the white emptiness and thought about the reasons for their being. I too shared the same feeling of awe as I questioned the significance of our existence, so insignificantly tiny and yet audacious by nature... did I find myself there, I do not know.
